SCHOOLHOUSE
TOUR
Do YOU know what Sam Houston's favorite subject was?
This tour is ideal for groups over 10. The School Marme will take students back to a day in a one-room schoolhouse. Schedule (you can customize this depending on your time frame):
ESTIMATED
TIME: 45 minutes
Teachers, would you like your class to truly "experience" a day in a one-room schoolhouse?
This tour is ideal for groups of 25 or less. Our school marme will ring the bell promptly at 10:00 am & instruct the students in the 5 finger rules before entering the schoolhouse. The school day will open as it did in 1812, with Bible reading & prayer. The rest of the school day schedule is as follows:
ESTIMATED TIME: 2 hours
Must call & schedule date!
MUSEUM TOUR
Do YOU know what artifact was found in the schoolhouse with the initials "S.H." engraved on it?
A Museum Tour Guide will explain the symbols on our Sam Houston mural, talk about his wives (3), and his family tree. Students will see handmade bullets, old textbooks, and a woodcarving of an eagle - and learn about their significance to Sam Houston and pioneer life. There will be ample time for questions and hunting for treasures in the gift shop. *Note: We have an excellent collection of books about Sam Houston, Blount County, and pioneer life, many by local authors.
ESTIMATED TIME: 30 minutes
COMBINATION TOUR
Large groups (over 25 people) may want to break their group into 3 smaller groups and rotate every 30-45 minutes between the Grounds, Museum & Schoolhouse tours. Example:
ESTIMATED TIME: 4 hours
